So I was on a crafty streak. I decided I’d finally give an origami dachshund a try. I found a set of instructions on the ever helpful pinterest that didn’t look totally impossible and printed them off. This is them:
Looks pretty straight forward, yes? I thought so. Until I actually looked at them with a flimsy square of paper in my hand….. Then they didn’t seem to make any sense at all! I could really have done with my sister being on hand for this one – she used to be able to make all sorts of weird and wonderful things out of origami. I battled my way through, I think correctly, until the last stage to make the head. It didn’t work at all. I could make the pocket fold ok but it didn’t make the right shape? I can’t figure it out. But this is what I ended up with:
I don’t think it looks massively like a dachshund. But then to be honest, I don’t think the one in the instructions looks much like a dachshund either! Certainly not like either of my two…. Will have to try again and see if I can crack the head properly. Origami – not a strong point of mine!!
I have decided to commission a portrait of the dogs. (No, it’s not my “something frivolous”!) A friend of mine liked a portrait on facebook and it was fantastic so I had a look at the artist’s website. Sarah Eden specializes in oil portraits, mainly of pets. I had a look through her gallery and there was one of a young dachshund that look uncannily like Pedro. I was hooked. So I got in contact and she gave me some tips for getting good pictures. I haven’t heard back yet as to whether they are a good enough quality for a portrait but I like them anyway.
Having managed to delete the post I wrote about this last night I’m going to have to try and do it again!
My little niece Penny is a bit wary of dogs (understandably) and my two dachshies can be a bit full on. So I thought I get her one of her own! When I was browsing on Amazon this little cutey popped up:
How cool is he? Anyway, I thought he’d be just right for Penny so I bought him. We took him round yesterday and Penny seemed quite taken with him. I forgot to take my phone with me so I couldn’t take any pictures. However, Laura has now sent me some pics of Penny with “dog” as he’s affectionately known!
