I made a birdhouse for my garden! I’m really pleased with how it turned out in the end. I’d seen a picture of something similar on Pinterest that had been for sale on Etsy for $45! The only similarity in the end is the cork covering but I think it works really well. The body of the house is made from lolly sticks criss-crossed and glued together. The base and door way is plywood and the perch & porch uprights are dowel rods cut to size. The roof was a particular challenge as a) it wasn’t very straight and b) the cork slices weren’t exactly the same thickness….. but it all came together with a bit of patience and (quite) a bit of glue.
I’m delighted and I can’t wait to get it hung up in the garden 🙂
I know it’s been another massive gap between postings but we’ve been super busy. Since we sold the boat at Easter our focus has been on the garden. Specifically the bottom part. After our mammoth effort earlier in the year (see here: https://101in10012014.wordpress.com/2015/07/10/day-656-63-finish-bottom-area-of-garden-update/) we have been working away trying to get the bottom area finished.
And I’m pleased to say we no longer have a mountain of dirt – it has all been sifted into neat & tidy veg beds. These have been planted up and are already providing us with food and great satisfaction!
We may add a fence & a gate next year, so we’ve held off making any new compost bins but the space is there ready for them. I’m delighted with how it’s turned out. And the best bit is that I never have to weed that bloody gravel EVER AGAIN!!!
